Other Groups Involved in Chemistry Curriculum Reform

ChemLinks

Based at Beloit College, the ChemLinks Coalition is comprised of private liberal arts colleges and research universities. ChemLinks is working to change the way students learn chemistry by using active and collaborative learning strategies in the classroom and laboratory while presenting chemistry as a model for the process of doing science.

MC2

MC2 is developing and evaluating a modular approach to teaching chemistry in the first two years of the undergraduate curriculum. These modules will present fundamental chemistry to students in the context of a real-world problem or application and will emphasize the links between chemistry and other disciplines.

Workshop Chemistry

The City College Consortium, which includes ten senior colleges and community colleges at the City University of New York, Universities of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, St. Xavier and Rochester, is developing and applying a new model of teaching. This model, called Workshop Chemistry , introduces participation and mentorship by recent completers of the course. Small group, student-led workshops are integral to the course structure.

Molecular Science Initiative

Molecular Science

Conditions exist that compel the chemistry community to restructure the discipline and manner in which students learn that discipline. The systemic changes in the Undergraduate Chemistry curriculum program provides the opportunity to address these issues. The goals of this program are:
- Reform the chemistry lower-division curriculum to accord with the practices of modern molecular science
- Transform educational methods by integrating modern telecommunications and information technology into the curriculum
- Create a new student assessment system
