Generalities
Teaching assistants often play a critical role in the implementation
of many active and cooperative learning methods. In this context,
TAs can both provide crucial information about the efficacy of
particular methods, and valuable suggestions about how best to
modify methods in a given context. In addition, since TAs often
have closer contact with students (both as individuals and as
a group) than do faculty, their perspective on student learning
can yield insights not available from individual students themselves.
