Generalities

It is important for reformers and evaluators to become aware of faculty attitudes towards: their own goals for student learning; the effectiveness of different strategies for achieving those goals; and the criteria by which they assess the success of classroom strategies. A lack of such understanding can lead to ineffective and even divisive efforts to improve student learning in a department or across departments. The surveys below were designed to be administered to all faculty in a department that is engaged in educational reform.

  1. Faculty Survey Tool 1 - a faculty survey of the relative import of various indicators of the effects of curriculum reform-- from the New Traditions Chemistry Curriculum Reform Initiative
  2. Faculty Survey Tool 2- faculty self-assessment of how well their course provided students with the opportunity to learn and practice "core" skills-- from the Gateway Coalition.
